Hello. My name's Derek, calling from Two Rivers. I'm a bow hunter, been doing it most of my life, and I need to tell you about something that happened to me and my wife out in the woods last month. We'd just moved here a few months back, still getting used to the area. We were walking a bridle trail in Nipissing Swamp State Natural Area, bow hunting. My wife had been after me to take her out more often, so there we were. It was a nice afternoon, temperature in the twenties, good hunting weather. But here's the thing, I'd been out to this same spot a few days before, and each time I got to this one particular fork in the trail, I'd stop. Just had this odd feeling about continuing past that point, you know? Can't really explain it. Just a feeling.
This time though, we kept going. The path split off, one way went right, and a snowmobile trail went left. We took the right path, and that's when something not far off the trail ran through the woods. I felt it in the ground. Like, I actually felt the vibration through my boots. Whatever it was, it was big. I figured it had to be a large buck. We're bow hunting, so we followed, hoping to get a glimpse of it. Found it maybe fifty yards up where the trail opened into a stand of tall pines. At first I thought it was a bear, standing on its back legs, scratching its back against a tree trunk. But then it kept stepping to the side, and I could see what looked like a shoulder and this really long arm. But it was black. Really black, darker than any bear I've ever seen.
Then it did something strange. It got down on all fours, and I saw what I thought was its head. But the shape was all wrong, almost like a football turned horizontal, with very long ears pointing up and back. And I'm pretty sure I saw long, grayish hair. This thing had to be eight to ten feet tall when it was standing. Long, thin, gangly arms. that close to something unknown must be terrifying - Marcus' Me and my wife just stood there watching it. We couldn't make sense of what we were looking at. Then it took three large steps and disappeared into the underbrush. We walked slowly toward where it had been standing, and there were these large impressions in the ground. I thought maybe it was another hunter in a ghillie suit, but this thing was way too tall to be human. I called out, 'Hello?' Nothing. Called out a few more times. Only silence.
